LIZZY BORDEN To Release New Single In May, Next Album In August
January 30, 2017LIZZY BORDEN has entered the studio to begin recording the long-awaited follow-up to 2007's "Appointment With Death" album. Speaking to The Metal Voice at this year's NAMM show in Anaheim, California, the band's frontman and namesake said about the long delay in getting a new record out: "Well, what happened was we've been on tour, on this perpetual tour for, like, the last ten years, and there was no reason to release a record. We just kept booking our winters, booking our summers, and just kept going and going. And finally we were in Russia, and I said, 'That's it. I'm done.' Our last show. I took the train off the track and decided to make a record. And Metal Blade offered a great deal. And, actually, it's reasonable to make a record now. So, yeah, all my thoughts and everything I'm putting into making this new record, which comes out this year. The first single should be out in May, [and] the album should be out in August."
Regarding the musical direction of the new LIZZY BORDEN material, Lizzy said: "I went back to thinking about individual songs. I make theme albums, conceptual albums, and they all kind of work together. And I'm still doing that on this album too, but I'm more interested in each song standing up on its own and not having to do deal with the concept. So I individualized all of these songs as if they were singles. That was kind of my thinking when I did the 'Visual Lies' album in '87, which was one of our biggest records. It was the same thing; the songs were individualized even though, thematically, it was all the same. And so I went back to that way of thinking. I hadn't done that in a while. There's a ton of vocals — probably more vocals on this than I have ever done, and I usually do a lot of vocals [laughs], if you've heard any of my records."
Lizzy Borden has spent over three decades creating some of the most theatrical metal in existence, releasing classics such as "Love You To Pieces" (1985) and "Master Of Disguise" (1989),while obliterating audiences worldwide with a stage show that rivals that of Marilyn Manson and Alice Cooper. For his efforts, he has become nothing short of a metal icon.
Joining Lizzy in LIZZY BORDEN's current lineup are Joey Scott on drums, Mårten Andersson on bass and Ira Black on guitar.
